Our Science

InFlectis is developing multifunctional, brain penetrant, small chemical compounds that:

  • selectively inhibit the dephosphorylation of eIF2α. By doing so, they amplify the Integrated Stress Response (ISR), acting as a formidable shield against various cellular stresses, including endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress which is a hallmark of neurodegeneration, and
  • selectively antagonize NMDA Receptor containing NR2B subunit which is involved in glutamate excitotoxicity that triggers calcium influx, mitochondrial dysfunction, and ROS production, and ultimately contributes to neurodegeneration. Our drugs also reduce mitochondrial ROS production in a NMDAR independent manner. Hence, InFlectis compounds normalize dysregulated calcium homeostasis and oxidative stress to provide neuroprotection in different diseases context.

Hope for ALS and beyond: This approach holds promise for designing disease-modifying therapeutics. Whether it’s ALS or other neurological disorders like MS, CMT, or AD, InFlectis’ multi-target approach may be our best shot at meaningful progress in the fight against such intractable diseases.
